Marriage and Family Therapy

Do you feel alone in your marriage? Even when you spend time together?

Do you sometimes wish for a partner who understands you?

Are you frustrated by the lack of boundaries with your mother?

Do you want to feel confident when expressing your needs or creating meaningful connection?

Families look different for everyone. Sometimes it is defined by birth, and other times our chosen families give us the greatest security. Whatever the make up is, we can all agree that sometimes family brings conflict that feels overwhelming and unresolvable. When we think family, many times the words that come to mind are stressful, complicated, or unreliable. These relationships can be the most difficult and also the most life-giving when they are healthy. This is where therapy

for relationships comes in. Relationship therapy encompasses marriage therapy, family therapy, premarital therapy, and parent-child therapy. Individuals can also benefit from relationship therapy to process challenging relationships, whether past or present.

Family Therapy is Relationship Therapy

Here at Dwell, we want to provide the space for your relationship to gain the attention it craves.  We were designed to live in community, yet many times the community is what causes us the most harm.  Through marriage therapy, family therapy, and relationship therapy, individuals can receive therapeutic support that cannot be found through friends, family, or sometimes even church leaders.  A trained therapist can help individuals get “unstuck” in their relationships and find the joy they are looking for.  If you are ready to get unstuck and would like to speak with a therapist, book an appointment today.

Are you feeling disconnected in your relationship?

Marriage Therapy

Marriage therapy can be a transformative experience for couples facing challenges in their relationship. Challenges include feeling disconnected, navigating unresolved conflict, or even like you just don't like each other like you used to.  In person or virtual couples counseling offers a structured environment where both partners can openly express their feelings and concerns, guided by a trained therapist. Our trauma informed therapists utilize evidence-based strategies such as Emotion Focused Therapy to give you the tools you need to confidently and effectively create more intimacy, more meaningful conversations, and more satisfaction in your relationship.

The process of marriage therapy helps to uncover underlying issues that may not be immediately apparent, fostering a deeper understanding between partners. These underlying issues often lead to feelings of being unheard, uncared for, and unloved.  By learning effective communication strategies and conflict resolution skills, couples can create emotional safety in their relationship to more confidently share their vulnerable feelings.  This leads to a relationship that is grounded in truth, safety, and respect for one another.  It creates a team.

Marriage therapy is an excellent preventative tool.  You don’t have to wait until you are in crisis or discussing separation.  Marriage therapy provides couples the tool to improve the positive  foundation you have already built to create your dream relationship.  Our therapists utilize SYMBIS, Gottman, and EFT to lead couples to a strong friendship, emotional safety, and an ease that comes with healthy intimacy.

Meet our Marriage Therapist

Lauren is passionate about relationship-focused therapy, where she helps couples, marriages, and families navigate the complexities of human connection. Relationships can be messy, emotional, and sometimes overwhelming, but they don’t have to be a source of constant stress or conflict. Lauren approaches her work with a deep sense of hope, using proven techniques to help her clients foster understanding, trust, and joy in their relationships.

For couples, Lauren’s work often involves helping partners see beyond day-to-day frustrations to truly understand and connect with each other’s hearts. Using principles from EFT and the Gottman Method, she supports couples in building a foundation of trust and mutual respect. Communication improves not just through practical tools but through a profound shift in perspective, where partners begin to see each other with greater empathy and compassion.

Lauren believes that strong families are the cornerstone of a thriving society, and healthy marriages form the foundation of those families. A resilient, loving partnership not only benefits the couple but also creates a ripple effect that extends to children, extended family, and the broader community. The impact of cultivating a marriage that reflects the love of God for His people is far-reaching and unlimited in its ministry capacity. In her work, Lauren inspires couples to create partnerships that are not only functional but deeply fulfilling—relationships that are life-giving and joy-filled, even in the face of life’s inevitable challenges.

Family Therapy

Families can be messy.  Sometimes overwhelming.  Our therapists provide in person or virtual therapy for families in North Carolina to create routines and rhythms of shared meaning.  Whether you are working through a season of recovery, grieving a loss or transition, or needing to resolve conflict, family therapy implements effective tools to communicate more effectively with your family members. By addressing issues collectively, family therapy encourages members to develop empathy and work together to find solutions, enhancing the overall harmony within the family unit. This collaborative approach often leads to better problem-solving and can help to build stronger, more supportive connections among family members.

Clinical Therapist & Educator

Areas of Specialty: Trauma; Children, Teens, and Families

For several years I have worked with children, teens, and families to help them navigate difficult and overwhelming seasons. From physical and emotional abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, traumatic grief, and substance use related issues, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside and supporting children, and their families, as they begin to experience hope and healing. Being a kid in today’s world is not easy, and making decisions as parents can be just as challenging. I believe every family has the ability to grow and overcome challenges together.

Family therapy can be so helpful in seeing struggles and problems from a multisystemic perspective — I believe in stepping back to see the bigger picture and working toward stronger and healthier relationships. I have training in Family Systems therapy as well as Child-Centered Play Therapy and implement this when working with younger children. Before a child even knows how to communicate verbally, they begin to communicate through play. Whether it’s puppets, sand tray, arts and crafts, or imagination, I use many tools to help your little one feel comfortable and safe as they communicate and express themselves through play. Whether it’s you, your child, or your whole family, I would love to come alongside and help you navigate the issues you’re facing right now.

For some more details on how I do what I do, here’s a bit about my background and approach. I work from a trauma-informed lens in all my work with clients. I am certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and utilize modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy, always tailoring these modalities to meet each individual’s unique needs.
