Madelyn Pemberton

Clinical Intern | Marriage + Family Therapy Program

Hi, I’m Madelyn, and I’m glad you are reading this now. As a Marriage and Family Therapy intern, I can only imagine the experiences, struggles, and pain that have brought you here to my page. I know only too well how hard even this first step of reading about a potential therapist can be.

The truth is, there are two sides to most things in life–some of the most wonderful parts of life, like marriage, family, college, and kids, can also bring about the most challenges.    Whether you're navigating the complexities of marriage, your kids are in the throes of adolescence, the transitions of postpartum with a new baby are leaving you feeling all kinds of overwhelmed, or the impact of trauma is slowly seeping into every aspect of your life, therapy can be a valuable space to explore, learn, and grow. With the right therapist, it can be transformative.

For years I have worked in multiple social work settings where, too often, I witnessed couples missing out on connection, families slowly becoming more and more disconnected, and kids struggling to make sense of their world in the midst of trauma and change and developmental transitions. The reality is, untreated mental health concerns can seem to rage like an unrelenting storm of stress and confusion. Because we don’t know what we don’t know, and we can’t fix what we don’t understand. Fortunately, counseling can be a place to stop that storm in its tracks–a place to actually figure out what is going on and make a plan to change that storm trajectory for good.

My goal is to create a space where you feel seen, heard, known, and valued. I approach therapy from a very collaborative, empathetic place where I am not your teacher but rather a fellow traveler, a guide with a specialized skill set to help you safely get to where you are going. I will walk alongside you every step of the way as you uncover insights, identify patterns, and create achievable goals that reflect your values and dreams. I will always meet you right where you are, implementing evidence-based modalities like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solutions-Focused Therapy, and Narrative therapy to move you forward.

As a Christian therapist, I love to integrate faith into the therapeutic process, always at my clients’ discretion. I believe that viewing people as holistic beings–designed with bodies, minds, and souls– significantly impacts the healing process because it is a whole-person approach.

Currently I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Developmental Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling from Liberty University.  I am currently finishing up my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy also from Liberty University. I am certified in the Gottman Method (Level One), which supports my work with couples, and I am also a SYMBIS Assessment Facilitator which helps me assist engaged and married couples as they create a solid foundation for their marriages.

When I’m not busy being a therapist, I enjoy experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, reading biographies (more likely nerding out with my stack of counseling books), or finding a new place to hike with my husband and daughter.

I look forward to walking alongside you on your journey. Wherever you’ve been that led you here to reading all the way to the end of my bio, you deserve to love your life (even if you’re so far from that right now it feels impossible). I firmly believe that you are meant to live a life full of victory, rewarding relationships, personal growth, and hope.

Let’s get to work!
