Jess Griffin, MA, LCMHCA
Clinical Therapist & Educator
Have you ever felt like just giving up? Like you’re wearing a lead suit and everything just feels hard? Or like you’ve tried everything to help your child and nothing has worked? Or like your life feels like a roller coaster and you can’t catch your breath (or you’re constantly waiting for the next shoe to drop)?
Hey, I’m Jess–and if this is you, you might be in the right place. Life can feel so overwhelming, and even if you want to make a change it can be difficult to know what to do and where to start. I get that. I’ve seen it over and over, and this is how I know that there is hope. And one way we can tangibly feel hope is when we feel less alone. That’s where I come in.
Whether you find yourself stuck in patterns of anxiety, carrying around that lead suit of depression, shattered by grief, or navigating the struggles of parenting, you don’t have to do it alone. Having a companion for your journey, a comrade in arms to fight those uphill battles, a skilled guide to help you figure out where you want to go and how to get there can make all the difference. Together, we can work toward the life you want to live–a life you truly love.
As a licensed therapist with a passion for seeing God’s healing work in the midst of pain, overwhelm, anxiety, and trauma, I work to create a safe and supportive space where you feel heard and understood. I see kids ages 10+, as well as teens and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, among other challenges. Sometimes it’s just an overall sadness or a difficult transition or a grief that seems like it will never go away. I also love to include parent coaching and family sessions into my work because no one exists in a vacuum and these relationships are so important for individual development and growth! Each session is tailored to your unique story and goals. I believe therapy doesn’t have to feel intimidating–I think instead it should feel like a genuine conversation, an experience of being known and accepted, a safe space full of compassion and possibility.
My approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused strategies, and Person-Centered principles. For clients who wish to include faith in their journey, I offer the option to integrate a Biblical perspective into counseling, always at your discretion (as much or as little as you want). I believe this can provide hope, strength, and purpose and can be a great catalyst for growth as we do the hard work of healing.
For a little more about my background…I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina Central University. Outside of counseling, I enjoy being outdoors, getting lost in a good book, and watching basketball with my husband.
At the end of the day, if you choose to take the next step in your journey, this will be about you. Your story matters, and so do your goals. Whenever you’re ready, I’m here to walk with you.
You won’t be alone, no matter how hard it feels. You can count on it.
