Jordan Horton,MA, LCMHCA

Clinical Therapist & Educator

Are you feeling a pain that is hard to put a finger on, or you may not have the words for? Feeling anxious, sad, or like you are stuck in survival mode? Have you ever wondered whether those unseen wounds are even valid if you can’t explain them?  If so, I can tell you with confidence that you’re not alone, and I can also tell you that what you are feeling matters. Your story matters. Whatever it is you have experienced, whatever pain plagues you, whatever struggles you face, you are still you – no trauma, diagnosis, or past experience gets to define who you are.

Hi- I’m Jordan, and I am so glad you stopped by my page. Seeking therapy can be an amazing first step towards healing. I won’t promise that it will be easy (in fact it can be really hard), but I can assure you that I will walk alongside you as long as I’m needed. I’ll help you to explore your story, celebrating the parts that make you smile while grieving and processing the parts that terrify you to this day. Throughout your journey, we will not rush into changing (rushing never made anyone heal faster), but rather slow it down to allow you time to process and cope with what you are feeling – both then and now. Together, we will notice patterns that trigger anxiety, how your body responds, and which coping strategies work best for you. When you can understand your own nervous system, nurturing it rather than fighting it, you can then begin to regain your sense of self, motivation, and personal freedom.

My goal is to help you take back the power – no longer consumed by feelings and experiences, but instead putting them in their proper place and moving forward with confidence. I specialize in dealing with post-traumatic stress, acute stress, anxiety, depression, grief, and loss. It’s easy to feel alone in our struggles, like no one else in the world could possibly understand. I strive to make sure you know that you are never truly alone, both through my presence in sessions and through the knowledge that God sees you – whether you are standing on the mountaintop or trudging through the deepest valley.

I will strive to create a safe space tailored to your story and goals. I see children, teens, adults, and older adults who are struggling with lots of different challenges and want to feel seen, heard, and understood. Through the use of conversation, evidence-based tools, a safe and accepting space, and a feeling of being seen and heard, therapy can be like a breath of fresh air.

I work from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) lens, grounded in trauma-informed and Person-Centered concepts and Solution-Focused methods. I approach therapy from a biblically grounded belief that God is the ultimate healer, but I also understand that not every person’s faith journey is the same. I offer the option to include as much or as little biblical perspective in your counseling experience, entirely at your discretion.

For more background on me, I graduated with a BS from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and also earned a Master of Healthcare Administration at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Most recently, I earned a Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. I am a National Certified Counselor rooted in compassion and clinical expertise. Outside of therapy, I enjoy going on adventures with my husband, reading books, going to the plant store, and drinking coffee.

Even in the midst of hard times, change is possible. Even if this is hard for you to believe right now, I can assure you I believe it strongly enough for the both of us! Together, we will build strategies and work towards your goals to instill resilience, hope, and freedom.

You may have been shaped by what you’ve experienced, and by how you feel, think, and view the world around you, but only you get to decide how you will move forward and shape your future.

I’m ready when you are.
